Newent v U10’s

Newent v U10’s

TigersNewsTewkesbury tigers under 10’s travelled away to meet a team they’d not come across before and without three influential players which included the twins Miles and Mason (who were away on international duties helping Ireland out and showing them how to play).

Tewkesbury 35 – 0 Newent

Tewkesbury fielded a good side to start; this hopefully would soften the Newent team up for the next Tewkesbury side and see what there made off. Tewkesbury from the off sent in there big forwards Joe G an co only for Newent to shy away from making the tackle and Joe to bullock his way over for an early try . This however wasn’t what Tewkesbury needed as they then started to play more as individuals than as they usually do as a team. From the kick off Newent ran at Tewkesbury but where repelled back and as Tewkesbury drove over the ball they shipped it to Joe G again who drove to the line only to be held up but throw his stubbornness would not give up and eventually got over the line to score again. The game was played out the same Newent ran at Tewkesbury only to be repelled back, Tewkesbury did however through Charlie K play some good rugby with a show and go and even a switch or two making space for Brendon l to use his speed and his lovely step to score four tries. As the game went on henry e rounded off the score with a try in the corner.

Tewkesbury 0 – 25 Newent

Tewkesbury put out a new team but early mistakes and some sloppy tackling gave Newent the upper hand and has the game went Newent grow in confidence and Tewkesbury lost there’s. Newent ran in five tries as Tewkesbury faded . Dan l and Harvey m lead from the front with Dan l tackling his heart out and Harvey m making some great runs throw the heart of the Newent defence. The team just lacked a leader to step up and take control but the kids tried their hearts out well done.

Tewkesbury 15-5 Newent

This was a short game as Newent fielded a small squad and after the last defeat wanted to settle the score . Once again they started by sending in the big lads but this time they moved the ball around the pitch but with Newent having their heads up still from the last game did not find it easy . Henry e managed to find himself in amongst the backs a couple of times to run in two tries . But Newent responded well and with henry doing well going forward found himself wanting on this occasion and fell off the tackle to let Newent score a try of their own . This how ever gave Tewkesbury a kick up the arse and with the players driving forward made space for Joe G to cross the line twice only for one to count and one to be ruled out(held up).

Tewkesbury 0-15 Newent

Tewkesbury put on a new team again but once again players fell off to many tackles to compete and did not support each other well enough to stop Newent from running in three tries and ending the encounter on a winning note.

All the kids from both clubs played well and showed some good aggressive running.

Newent v U10’s

U10’s V Evesham

Tewkesbury tigers under 10’s hosted another local rival Evesham. This team always puts on a great display and makes for a tough challenge.

Tewkesbury bengals 20-0 Evesham
Tewkesbury won the toss and opted to kick off on this lovely bright morning and as always set there stall out early on by direct running and aggressive defending. The first few minuets where a great arm wrestle between the teams as they both tried to get the upper hand on each other, but Tewkesbury took there chances better and shipped the ball down the line to find there speedster Brendon who with a lot of work to do still rounded a couple of Evesham’s players tight to the line to go over for a try. Evesham from kick off sent there big guns in only to be drove back by Tewkesbury who once again moved the ball down the line driving forward and popping the ball around moving the Evesham players around the field to make room for henry to find a gap and out pace the opposition to score Tewkesbury’s 2nd. Again Evesham came at Tewkesbury but again Tewkesbury defended with all there might and won a great ball for Sean to go over the line for there 3rd. Big Joe finished off Evesham with a mighty run to bully his way over Evesham’s line and finish off the game.

Tewkesbury siberians 0-20 Evesham
Tewkesbury fielded a good side in this contest but could not continue there form from last week as an aggressive well drilled Evesham team pressed Tewkesbury into mistake after mistake and with Tewkesbury in a bit of confusion and shell shock ran in 4 tries to win the game, Tewkesbury fell off to many tackles and got isolated to many times but showed great grit and determination in this game.

Tewkesbury siberians 0-25 Evesham
Tewkesbury fielded the same side to play the next game but could not step up there game even with the senior players putting in great individual displays and this was the problem as Evesham imposed them selves in this game the senior players got more frustrated and tried to do to much on there own and forgot the basics but this is a learning curve for them and hopefully will come back stronger. All players can hold there heads up high well done .

Tewkesbury bengals 20-0 Evesham
Tewkesbury after watching there team mates lose to Evesham where in no mood to follow them and wanted to even the the score and they did. Time after time Evesham came at them with no avail . But on the other hand every time Tewkesbury had the ball they looked like scoring and with Charlie running the show and directing his troops and big Joe driving forward Tewkesbury wore Evesham out. Brendon ran in 2 lovely tries turning the opposition in and out with Jack diving on a loose ball to score his try and big Joe powering over again to add to his tally. Well done to the bengals for shutting out Evesham and keeping a clean sheet on both games .

U10’s V Upton

TigersNewsTewkesbury 20 v 0 Upton
In between the dark clouds and blustery showers the sun shone down and with the back drop of Tewkesbury Abbey the scene was set for another bruising encounter with local rivals Upton and the very large crowd of over 80 were not going to be disappointed . Upton started well with some good strong running making good ground but the Tewkesbury defence held firm and soon got to work at the break downs winning good ruck ball. From one such ruck Jo and Tyler drove over winning good ball for Ellis,Sam and Henry to pass the ball down the line where Sean Finnish off the move with a very good try in the corner. Tewkesbury defence was once again put under pressure but good strong tackling from Sam,Jack and Jo drive Upton back towards they own try line leading them to concede a penalty. From the resulting penalty 15 yards out Tewkesbury’s iron man Jo collected the ball and crashed over the try line for Tewkesbury’s second try. Straight from the restart Upton made good ground towards the Tewkesbury try line only to knock the ball on Ellis pounced on the ball passing it to Gorgi and then Sam who weaved his way through half of the Upton team running 40 yards to score Tewkesbury’s third try. In the last five minutes of the first quarter the games tempo increase with both sides tackling and rucking strongly and after one  particular ruck Ellis passed the ball out quickly to Sam C who passed it to Bredon to run in the fourth try of the game.

Tewkesbury 10 v 10 Upton
As the rain began and the wind picked up the game got under way. Upton started strongly and good running lead to them scoring the first try. Tewkesbury came back strongly with the ever present Miles and Mason making good ground. Tewkesbury competed well in the rucks with Harry and Harvey winning good ball. From one such ruck Miles picked up the ball and weaved his way over for Tewkesbury’s first try. Upton responded well but good strong tackling from Will,Harry and Dan L kept Upton at bay. But shortly after Upton went over for their second try.

Tewkesbury came straight back with miles and mason making some very good runs. Tewkesbury pressured the Upton try line where Harry won good ball and passed it to Harvey who crashed over from 10 yards out to level the score.

Tewkesbury 10 v 0 Upton
This was another bruising encounter between two evenly matched teams who gave their all.

Both teams tackled hard and ran strongly making for a very exciting game. Tewkesbury who have been working hard on their fitness began to get the upper hand and after winning good ruck ball Ellis passed the ball down the line through Jack, Henry, Sean and Sam who poped  the ball off to Bredon to cross the line for Tewkesbury’s first try. Tewkesbury kept up the pressure with Jo making some strong runs supported by Ellis,Tyler and Jack. After some powerful rucking by Tewkesbury Ellis passed the ball to Sam who cut through the heart of the Upton defence only to be tackled just short of the line he poped the ball up to Brendon to round off the scoring . That rounded off two very good games played by two very committed sides, what was very pleasing from a Tewkesbury point of view was their strong defence not conceding a try well done all!

Tewkesbury 0 v 15 Upton
The final match of the day got off to a frantic start with both teams running well with to ball. Upton   raced  into a two try lead but that seemed to ignite Tewkesbury into action with Harry and Harvey making some very strong runs just falling short of the try line. Some great tackling by Jacop,Dan and Dan L kept Upton at bay. Miles and Mason making darting runs kept Tewkesbury encamped on the Upton line supported by Dillon,Thomas and Harry but good solid defence by Upton prevented a try. In the last minute Upton scored a breaker way try to round off the scoring.

Well played both sides!

Newent v U10’s

Bredon v U10’s

Tewkesbury tigers under 10’s set off on an early wintery cold Sunday morning to play as quoted by sir Alex Ferguson there noisy neighbours and closest rivals Bredon, Tewkesbury Tigers under 10’s has now split into two team , gearing up for the their county cup tournament ( the Bengal and the Siberian tigers ) both teams are looking good and strong and Bredon would make for a great challenge and they did not dis-appoint .

Bredon 5-5 Tewkesbury
The game started with both sides showing their intent and both sides playing very good disciplined rugby. Bredon where ferocious in there rucking and Tewkesbury never took a step backwards in their defence . The match was very evenly balanced until some very good inter play by Tewkesbury saw them move the ball down the line for their flying speedster Brendon to avoid several tackles and make a great break drawing the last player and popping the ball to the ever present Charlie Kendrick to score in the corner. From kick off Bredon piled on the pressure running at Tewkesbury but Joe G and Sam Williams tackled and drove them back time after time as did Saun C , Ellis, Jack, Brendon and to be honest the rest of the team. But eventually the Bredon rucking paid dividends and they drove Tewkesbury back to grab a last minute try and tie the game.

Bredon 20-0 Tewkesbury
The score line to be fair did not reflect the game this was more even than it says, Bredon how ever did manage to do what Tewkesbury could not and finish off their chances. Tewkesbury on several occasions did cross the Bredon try line but great defence and ripping managed to stop them each time before they could ground the ball.

Bredon 5-10 Tewkesbury
This again was a great display of rugby but this time both sides competed for the ball at the break downs evenly, this is what Tewkesbury needed a team to give them a kick up the ass and make them compete and stand strong. Once again Tewkesbury struck first with Saun , Joe G , Sam and Henry making good strong runs dragging Bredons defenders in for Ellis and Charlie K to combine and ship the ball out wide to Sam Williams to weave and wind his way down the wing and score in the corner. The match went on with both sides defending and attacking with equal intensity but again Tewkesbury managed to win a truck and ship the ball quickly out wide for Brendon to shoot up the wing and score a lovely try of his own, Bredon then pressured Tewkesbury and with a well worked move of their own ran in a try to make the last minutes of the game very tense both teams dogged it out but a knock on by Bredon ended a very good contest.

Bredon 15-5 Tewkesbury
This to be fair this was once again a very close run contest with once again Tewkesbury beating on  Bredons door and once again being met by a great defence , credit to Bredon as other teams would have conceded to the pressure. Miles Rendell , Mason Rendell and  Harvey all had great runs at the opposition Tyler, Harry, William and Dan defended with passion but Bredon just used there over laps better and ran in 3 tries but Tewkesbury did manage a last ditched effort and finish off the game with a flourish as henry squeezed in the corner for a great try showing power and awareness.

All the players can hold their heads up high, on a cold wet miserable day they showed great maturity and the rugby by both teams was of a high standard for this age, well done, all the coaches especially this one is very proud of you all.

U10’s V Malvern (away)

Malvern 10 – 90 Tewkesbury

On a warm sunny day at the foot of the Malvern hills was the perfect setting to the start of the new season. Tewkesbury came up against a strong and well drilled Malvern side that proved to be a good challenge for the start of the season. Tewkesbury were bursting with energy and could not wait to get going. Malvern ran hard at Tewkesbury but strong tackling kept them at bay and when mistakes were made Tewkesbury pounced on them and soon began to run in try’s. Tewkesbury s strong defence gave them momentum in the rucks and mauls and when quick ball came they were able to spread the ball wide, this created gaps which enabled them to add to there try tally. Tewkesbury fitness which they have been working on very hard in training came to the forefront enabling  them to finnish the match strongly. What was very satisfying from a coaches view point is that what they have been taught in training they are putting into practise in a match situation. WELL DONE EVERYONE

Try scorers were Miles, Mason, Harry, Dan, Sam C, Will ,Dan and Jacop
