Tewkesbury Girls V Drybrook

Tewkesbury Girls V Drybrook

On an extremely hot sunday afternoon our girls U13s team had their very first game.

We were hosting our local derby against Drybrook.

The girls are all new to the game on both sides, although they did not show it on the pitch.

Things started very quickly and a fantastic run from Charlotte (basher) saw Tewkesbury take the first points and also our 1st U13s try.

A fast response from Drybrook saw the scores levelled with a remarkable run.

Tewkesbury then ran back at the visitors but great tackling stop us short of the line.

Drybrook then took the lead with 2 more fantastic runs both resulting in tries.

In the dying seconds of the game Lottie Simon made a great break and scored her first try.

Final score 10-15 loss

Man of the match was Rebecca (popeye) Pope for an amazing display of tackling.

Straight after it was time for the U15s to play.

Things kicked of quickly and tackles were aplenty. All the girls were up for this game.

First points came to tewkesbury with a fantastic run from second row Kayleigh.

Drybrook answered back quickly and levelled the score.

Then Drybrook broke through some weak tackling from tewkesbury and took the lead.

Tewkesbury regrouped and a great offload saw number 8 Emily (frizzy) Crawford run in our 2nd.

The visitors then ran a quick break up the touch line and again took the lead.

The girls were all putting in heavy tackles and each side had casualties (none serious) but they kept battling, impressing the crowds of supporters on both sides.

The forwards started to get the rucks sorted late in the second half and another great run from kayleigh saw us level the score.

Final score 15-15 draw

Man of the match was Ellen (Alan) Wells for 110% effort and amazing tackles all through the game.

It was a great day of rugby and was enjoyed by all.

U15 Girls V Ciren

U15 Girls V Ciren

On a very wet and cold sunday afternoon the girls took a trip down to Minety to play Cirencester. We were itching to play this match as this was the game we played last season when we first got the girls section going.

We got underway and instantly showed dominance in forward play with Kayleigh crashing over for our 1st try.

Ciren came back at us but we turned the ball over and ran it back, forward play pressured in the Ciren 22 and scrum half Gemma scored our 2nd.

The game had a few knock on’s from both teams but our forwards dominated the scrum and the ref had to ask them to “go easy”. Then came a break from a great partnership from Rachel (ginge) Greene and Katie Simon resulting in ginge scoring our 3rd.

Shortly after rats went over for our 4th, making up for a fumble on the line shortly before.

In the 2nd half we were going uphill and we got hail stones raining down. This did not deter us and we again pushed forward, although the defense on the Ciren team really pulled together.

Olivia Rendell then got the ball from just inside the Ciren half and made an amazing run bouncing off 4 tackle attempts  and dragging almost the whole Ciren back line to score our 5th try.

Kayleigh then added another try resulting in our 4th hatrick of the season, joining the elite list of Rebecca, Chloe and Therza.

Ciren then made a great run in the dying second and scored their 1st of the game.

Man of the match was Kayleigh.

Special thanks to Rebecca (popeye) Pope, Charlotte and Jordan who made numbers up for Ciren, Charlotte was amazing and showed great skills

Final score Cirencester 5-35 Tewkesbury

Catherine Spencer’s visit to TRFC

On February 1st Tewkesbury u15’s Girls were treated to a visit by former women’s England captain Catherine Spencer.

It was a freezing night but we had a maximum number of girls training and all enjoyed having a star joining in their training session.

The session was fast paced to keep the girls warm and the all showed off what they had learnt.

Catherine even took time to sign balls shirts and pose for photos.

Below in an email from Catherine sent to Mike Timbrell the GRFU representative

HI Mike

I just wanted to pop you an email to let you know that I paid a visit to Tewkesbury this week. Despite the freezing conditions there was a great turnout of girls training – I did not count but must have been about 25. Their numbers have rocketed since Tewkesbury and Glos Reds joined forces at U15. They have played a number of U15’s fixtures and are due to play their first U13’s game soon.

I was really impressed by the session, Roger and Mervyn have obviously done a great job and have good parental support. There is potential to start an U18’s side next season which will help to boost numbers moving in to the ladies senior team.

Kind Regards

Spence
