U10’s win County Cup

Tewkesbury triumph in this years County Cup

Tewkesbury RFC are very much on the up both on and off the field after a very successful week. At the start of the season two new junior pitches were created and this week the club is celebrating after winning backing from the RFU and a grant from Tewkesbury borough council to build new changing rooms at the club. The work on the new changing rooms is set to start at the being of June according to club secretary Geoff Sallis who has been the driving force behind the project.

On the pitch the success as been matched as Tewkesbury U10’s won the county cup at the county finals day held in Bristol. This is the first time any team from the club as managed to bring the cup back to Tewkesbury.

They were drawn against Old Bristolians in the semi-finals and after a hard fought encounter came out victors by scoring the only try of the game. In the final they came up against their local rivals Cheltenham knowing that they would have to play to their full potential to come out on top. The game was very evenly matched with Tewkesbury taking the lead just before half time.

The second half proved to be a very physical encounter with both teams creating chances and it was Cheltenham who managed to cross the line just before the full time whistle. when the game finished and the scores were level it was Tewkesbury who were celebrating on winning the County Cup due to them having scored the first try. The whole 24 members of the U10s squad have all been very instrumental in their success which their coaches put down to dedication in training and team work on the pitch.

Tewkesbury junior chairman Adrian Bishop said “it’s had been a great week for the club and hoped the success of the U10s squad would be the springboard for more success on the field for the whole club.”

Tewkesbury U12s – Land Rover Cup – 06/04/2014

IMG_0910

Today saw Tewkesbury Tigers U12s at the Land Rover Cup. The weather was not the best but it did not deter the boys from battling in a very strong group.

The scores were as follows

Tewkesbury 5 v Stroud 0 (Try: J.Brinn)
Tewkesbury 5 v  Old Patesians 15 ( Try: W.Wallace)
Tewkesbury 0 v Hucclecote 20

We are very proud of the boys. Well done

U12s v Cinderford – 23/03/14

Well today saw us entertain what I would say is the best U12s side in Gloucestershire in Cinderford. The game was played over 4 quarters and was closer than we expected although the score did not reflect this.

1st Quarter

Tewkesbury  0 v Cinderford 20

The game started with Tewkesbury not quite awake and with Cinderford looking hungrier. Although Tewkesbury did very well at the breakdown Cinderford picked up two interception tries as Tewkesbury were attacking and scored two further tries with quick hands across their back.

2nd Quarter

Tewkesubry 0 v Cinderford 10

The second quarter started where the first had finished with Tewkesbury competing well in all aspects. But again Cinderford’s backs were too good and two further tries were scored by Cinderford. Tewkesbury battled on despite the score.

3rd Quarter

Tewkesbury 0 v Cinderford 5

The third quarter was a lot tighter with Tewkesbury taking Cinderford on with some good forwards and backs play.

4th Quarter

Tewkesbury 0 v Cinderford 30

By this time Tewkesbury had given their all and were now tiring rapidly with only one subsitute on the bench. Lots of missed tackles and not enough numbers at rucks saw Cinderford continue as before and scored some very good tries through their back and forwards.

We have played Cinderford every year and today taught us that the Tewkesbury boys are getting better despite the score and for that they must be proud of themselves. All the hard work is paying off and next year will see us go to the 15 man game in a relatively good place.

Well done Cinderford it is always a pleasure to play this fixture.

Tewkesbury U12s – Gloucester County Festival – 16/03/2014

Today saw Tewkesbury Tigers U12s at the County Festival. It was a great day and the sun shine was sure going to help.

The boys were drawn in a relatively good pool and the scores were as follows

Tewkesbury 0 v Old Patesians 10
Cheltenham Tigers 0 v Tewkesbury 5 (Try: S.Thomas)
Tewkesbury 0 v Spartans 15
Tewkesbury 15 v Fairford 5 (Tries: B.Roberts, O. Osbourne, W.Wallace)

With two wins and two losses we expected to get through to the plate quarter finals and did. We were drawn with Minchinhampton.

The game was very close with Tewkesbury seeing most of the ball but unfortunately a place in the semi’s was not to be and the final score was

Tewkesbury 0 v Minchinhampton 5

We are very proud of the boys. Well done
