U12’s v Chosen Hill

under12sIt was great to see an increase in numbers of the under 12’s team, we had a full 15 players in our squad, giving us 2 subs for the game against Chosen Hill. Congratulations to the core of the U12 ‘s squad that have stuck with the team over the last few years whilst numbers were low.

Lewis Taylor was the chosen as captain for this game and Chosen Hill took an early lead as Tewkesbury were still pulling up their socks. The Tigers were still asleep as Chosen ran in another try. A few of the Tewkesbury players were playing out of their normal position and it showed. At half time we were down 27 points.

The 2nd half saw a different Tewkesbury side as, 2 players from either side swapped shirts. A quick break saw the ball popped to Max Rendell and he ran from our 22 with a pack of Chosen Hill players chasing. They could not keep up with his pace and scored under the posts and it was converted bring the score to 7 – 27.  One of the Chosen Hill players who was playing for Tewkesbury smashed his way through the Chosen defence to score for Tewkesbury 12 – 27. Towards the end of the 2nd half Max Rendell ran in two more converted trys. Bringing the full time score Tewkesbury 26 v 27 Chosen Hill.

We would like to thank Paddy (Chosen Hill Coach) for refereeing and his team for fair play and sportsmanship. Its what Sunday mornings were made for!

Man of the Match was William, for his vision and being at the right place at the right time, congratulations.

U9’s v Chosen Hill

Tewkesbury under 9”s hosted a large looking Chosen Hill side and fielded a very experienced side themselves, even though they had lost several key players through injury, illness and international call ups.

Tewkesbury 30 – 0 Chosen Hill
Chosen hill won the toss and chose to start. As expected they sent in there big players first only to be met by an impressive Tewkesbury defence who repelled them back with out standing aggression, this shocked the Chosen Hill players who did not expect to be met by such ferociousness. Tewkesbury then took the game to Chosen Hill and started to run at the opposition with the same aggression as they had when defending driving them back down the field. This kept on through out the half, Tewkesbury ran in two tries and had another two disallowed for knock ons.
The second half saw a broken Chosen Hill side take to the field and Tewkesbury making several changes to their team, this how ever never changed there tactics or aggressive play as time after time they drove Chosen Hill back every time they had the ball. Chosen Hill now started to miss tackles to allow Tewkesbury to run in four more tries before the end of the game.
Tewkesbury 45 – 5 Chosen hill
Tewkesbury started the second game with a completely different side, this allowed Chosen Hill to settle into there game as Tewkesbury had to reshuffle there formation. Chosen Hill struck first with a well worked try. this spurned them on and gave them a bit of a spring there step, this how ever did not last as this was the motivational tool the Tewkesbury team needed and they quickly replied with a try of there own, as the game went on Tewkesbury started to take more control of the game and ran in one more try before half time.
The second half saw both sides make changes to there line ups, Chosen Hill how ever started to fade and as time went on and under extreme pressure from Tewkesbury, folded allowing them to run in try after try to make the final score a deserved 45-5.
All the players available stepped to the challenge and played very well, this is the reason no one player has been mentioned in the write up as they all played out of there skins.

Minchinhampton v U14’s

Tewkesbury played the most skill full rugby for three quarters of the game which was appreciated by all parents and coaches. Minchinhampton hung in there and with there ample subs were just to much for Tewkesbury players who up till the last quarter were winning. As well as the high skill levels, Tewkesbury also have a great bond which shows as they never gave up or gave in.
Again, everyone deserved to be man of the match, an expensive round next time at our club house but worth it!

U11’s v Cinderford

A match that we had tried to play twice before and which had been postponed due weather was finally able to go ahead.

Tewkesbury started poorly  with Cinderford taking advantage on a number of occasions from strong rucking, and fast hands. Cinderford were also very dominant in the scrum allowing an excellent platform to play fast running rugby. Tewkesbury defended well on a number of occasions but were unable to hold out.  Tewkesbury rallied a little in the second half and attacked the Cinderford defence which also proved strong. Tewkesbury played really well and and put pressure on the Cinderford attacking line not giving them as much time as they had had in the first half. Strong tackling from S.Thomas,  J.Carter and O.Osbourne and M.Dibble slowed the Cinderford  attack. Good running from deep by T.Legget and E.Perry also allowed Tewkesbury to show a better second half showing. Tewkesbury fought hard in the forwards with good work from N.Knight, A.Cole and B.Roberts.

The final score in the first game was 0 – 55. A well deserved win for an excellent rugby side.

The second game showed a stronger Tewkesbury side. Even though they conceded  a couple of tries Tewkesbury never gave up, even though the pressure was relentless. They were rewarded after a number of strong attacks into the Cinderford half  with a try by J.Carter and T.Leggett converted. Cinderford once again played excellent running rugby scoring and converting a third  try.

The final score in the second game was 7 – 21.

An excellent committed game by both teams and all players. Well done all.
