New mini tag rugby sessions kick off

New mini tag rugby sessions kick off

It was absolutely fantastic to see so many youngsters and their parents this evening for our first Mini Tag Rugby Taster Sessions. The sessions are being run by our coach Rich Whincup who was ably assisted with Coach Steve Jones as well the entire U14 team – great job lads well done!

We are hoping to introduce U6 and U7 teams this September and are currently looking to recruit new coaches who would like to join us and help coach our new recruits. If you are interested in joining us and becoming an U6 and U7 coach then please email us at tigers@tewkesburyrfc.co.uk. Look forward to seeing everyone again next week.

U12 in action against Upton RFC

U12 in action against Upton RFC

Last Friday the under 12’s finally got back to action by gratefully hosting Upton RFC.

Upton looked strong with 6 games under their belt this season but our tigers started fast out of the gate. In the first third an early break away try from Rhys Clingan gave Tewkesbury the lead.
Upton however soon found their feet towards the end of the third and forced through 2 unanswered try’s to finish the 15.

The 2nd saw some excellent rugby from both sides and Upton had the upper hand throughout, but a determined and strong defensive display from Tewkesbury and a little craziness from Fin Capper kept the scoring to an additional 2 for Upton.

The final third was the highlight for Tewkesbury where the kids found their Rhythm and managed to score 4 in quick succession with some excellent hand skills and strong forward running. One try a piece from Mckenzie Fry and Will Barber gave us the push needed and a noted piece of grit and skill for Dillon Clarke brought in a storming try towards the end, finally a piece of magic by Mali Turner running from the 9 channel and scoring before the final whistle.

For both teams the level of rugby was exemplary,
With defensive man of the match performances from Mckenzie and Fin and attacking man of the match’s from Rhys Clingan and Jack Stringer our boys will take a well deserved break and we all look forward to the start of a new and hopefully normal season in September.

Massive thank you to Upton again for joining us on a fine Friday evening, we look forward to the away fixture.

Special thanks also to Tracy Pound from The Pig Roasting Company for providing after match hot dogs 🌭

Guest Coach Megan Goddard joins our Inner Warrior Event

Guest Coach Megan Goddard joins our Inner Warrior Event

Our U13, U15 and U18 girls welcomed Hucclecote girls to join them at our Allianz Inner Warrior event on Wednesday night.

The girls were excited to be joined by guest coach, Worcester Warrior, England and Barbarian player Megan Goddard who led the fun session.   Megan led a great session that focused on some key skills to prepare the girls for taking part in the Gloucestershire Cup over the next 3 weekends.

Many thanks to Megan for sharing her time and rugby knowledge.

We are always looking to welcome new players to our Wednesday night and Sunday morning training sessions, please get in touch if you would like more information.

Congratulations to Ben Peters

Congratulations to Ben Peters

Congratulations to Ben Peters who was selected to play for Gloucester U18’s against Leicester last Saturday and who was on the winning team beating Leicester 15-18 for the first time in 3 years.

Ben had played for Tewkesbury RFC since he was 11 and had been playing in our U16s before joining Gloucester Academy. What a great achievement for Ben and for us as a club we couldn’t be prouder to see players that we have nurtured move to the next stage of their rugby career, and Ben is quick to recognise and credit the support he had from the club and our coach “Crommie” in developing his playing skills as well as his primary school teacher Andy Green (John Moore Primary) who got Ben into playing rugby. Well done Ben.

U14’s take on coaching for Duke of Edinburgh awards

U14’s take on coaching for Duke of Edinburgh awards

Our club is built around volunteers, so it’s great to see some of our U14’s volunteering as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award. They have been joining our U9, U10 and U11 coaches on a Sunday morning to work towards their Bronze and Gold awards in the Volunteering Service section which has 4 sections to complete e.g volunteering, physical/recreation, skill and expedition. Taking part in rugby coaching not only covers the volunteering and physical parts but also helps develop new skills. Thank you to Jack, Toby, Ben and Thomas for some great work.
