Director of Rugby Appointment

Tewkesbury RFC are delighted to announce the appointment of Martin Thomas who will join the Management Committee as Director of Rugby.

Martin has been a key member of the coaching squad at the club for 13 years currently coaching our Under 16 squad as well as our 1st XV and 2nd XV.  In this newly created role,  he will develop and provide the strategic direction, leadership and oversight of men, women and junior rugby programmes at Tewkesbury RFC.  Working with Martin will be Billy McGinty as Head Coach. Billy who played rugby League for Wigan RLFC, coached at Worcester Warriors and Edinburgh and Martin will initially be looking to get the club promoted back to Gloucester 1, but also strengthen the Senior side by supporting the development of an under 17/18 colts side for the first time in many years. This is an important step forward for the club to co-ordinate the direction of rugby for a seamless journey for our players to progress their career from the age of 6 to 65+  by building on the strengths and confidence of our players at all levels through developing first class coaching.

Thanks to our main Sponsors Cotswold BMW and BPS and our associated sponsors.

Geoff Sallis steps down as Director

Geoff Sallis informed the Management Committee this week that he would be stepping down as Honorary Secretary and Director  with immediate effect.  Geoff has been a stalwart of the club for many years as a player and volunteer and has played a key role in the development of the club.   He has been instrumental in obtaining many major grants which will have allowed the club to develop under his tenure, most notably the rebuild of the changing rooms in 2015.

We would like to thank Geoff for all he has done for the club and wish him all the best for the future

Clubhouse reopening update

Clubhouse reopening update

UPDATE: Following our post in March regarding when we would be able to open the clubhouse and provide a bar service to our members, work is progressing in terms of providing an initial temporary as well as a permanent cellar solution to allow us to re-open by the middle of May. However, for this to happen we are dependant on suppliers, but meetings are taking place over the next week after which we will be able to give everyone a more realistic timescale. If anyone has any questions or comments please send us an email. In the meantime thank you for your patience and more importantly your support!

Training pitch undergoes new drainage

Training pitch undergoes new drainage

Ecosol Turfcare have done a great job this week carrying out some much needed drainage to our training pitch, which will allow it to be used more for training and coaching, reducing the impact of the game pitches. It will also ensure that as many arranged fixtures can go ahead, even in the wettest conditions. The work has been able to take place thanks to a Tewkesbury Borough Council fund that we were able to apply for within the Town and Country Planning Act that helps provide infrastructure improvements.

Clubhouse reopening update

Clubhouse re-opening

With expectations now growing of outside hospitality returning in April we wanted to share with members our plans to re-open the Clubhouse.
Many of you are aware of the cellar flooding issues we have experienced in the past and with the cellar flooding once again in lockdown, the Management Committee made the decision to look at a new cellar solution that would not inhibit our ability to operate in the event of future flooding. We are now working on a project to move the location of the cellar so we can look towards opening when Government restrictions allow inside drinking and we can bring draft beers online.
We know that this is disappointing, but we are working hard to ensure we can get up and running as soon as we can. We are committed to keeping everyone informed and will post regular updates as we progress. Thank you to all our members for your continued support!
Back in action!

Back in action!

It’s been a bit of a stop start season so far, but at long last the RFU have given grassroots Rugby the green light to start training again. Our men, women, junior boys and girls as well as walking rugby will all be back in action from Monday 29 March when hopefully we can finish the season at the end of May with the possibility of a few games taking place!

If you are interested in joining Tewkesbury RFC then please just send us an email or complete one of our contact forms so that we can arrange for you to pop down and start a trial.

Unfortunately our Clubhouse remains closed under the current government guidelines until the middle of May but will be dependant on guidance at the time.  We will keep everyone up to date with progress.
