Tigers Under 10’s vs Upton

Tigers Under 10’s played local rivals Upton upon Severn on Sunday running out winners in both games by 6 Trys to 1 and 4 Trys to nil in the second.

After a quick warm up in the cold, the guys were ready for the first game at 11am. Fortunately the rain has stopped and the first game kicked off with both sides providing lots of endeavour and desire to pass and run with the ball. First half saw the Under 10’s from Tewkesbury come out on top with 4 good try’s, notably from Henry McMahon who ran in 2. Upton came back with a good try of their own when they scored directly from a Kick Off as the Tigers boys slept in defence ..snzzzzz

Second half saw Upton hit back but a solid defence from the Tigers held firm and resulted in Upton being forced into errors that the Tigers converted into good trys from Louis Corless and Jack Pates. Tigers maul functioned very well creating good momentum and worked well in defence slowing Upton possession. Josh Barnes finished off a lovely move when the boys went through 5 or 6 phases of ruck and mauls, passing through hands and finally to Josh B. With 10 metres still to go and 2 defenders to beat, he aimed for the last defender hit him with the opposite shoulder and then rolled off him to spin through between the Upton players and touch down, great skills! Jayne Smith, playing only her 3rd game for the Tigers, produced her best performance so far producing some great runs with the ball and showing wonderful ability. Although I’m not sure when she took off her scrum cap the Upton boys were so pleased too see who had knocked them over!   Go Jayne!!!

Second game started well again for Tewkesbury with excellent direct running and good clearing at the ruck, big hats off to Tyler and Josh Russell for clearing work done. The backs now started to come into it more with greater space on the pitch seeing good trys from Joel Hughes and Tyler Long again. Tigers worked hard to get the ball out of the tackle quickly with Joel’s try coming from good work from Henry McMahon giving Joel room to cut back in from the wing and weave in over the line un-touched from 10 metres out. Other notable mentions go to Louis Corless, for stepping off the wing several time to come looking for the ball, we even saw him in the middle of the maul at one point driving Upton back. For this work and great skills evading players on the wing we gave him the Skills Award because it was a big step up in his tackling and mauling.

Man Of the Match went to Henry, to be honest he had a blinder!  Ran hard and straight, passed very well out of tackles and put in some super tackles himself. He also scored a couple of trys as well just for good measure.

Henry and Louis then took part in the Chocolate Challenge, with Henry devouring his Mars bar in record time.

Great team effort all round and looking forward to the next game!

U14’s V Evesham

Tewkesbury 31 v 10 Evesham

The game today was a cracker for all the right reasons, the Vineyards pitch had soaked up the rain and left a good surface to play fast attractive  skill full rugby.

Tewkesbury overcome Evesham through fast attacking and stubborn defence, confidence led to positive play. Josh Johansen earned Man of the Match through quick distribution and applying  pressure around the scrum.
