Transitional Club Season with County and Regional Recognition

Transitional Club Season with County and Regional Recognition

The U18 Girls team have had a successful and enjoyable season. A transitional phase for the team with a large group stepping up from U15s has seen the team develop in stature, skill and success throughout the season.

With a strong pack the development and progression have seen greatest acceleration within the back line making the transition to a more senior and physical grade of rugby with mentoring from the more senior players.

Competing locally and in South West cup competitions the team have competed strongly with close results.

This has been recognised at both County and Regional level with the team well represented in the Gloucestershire U18s squad by Thyrza Peters, Rebecca Wells, Rebecca Pope, Shannon Stroud, Jo Brame, Olivia King, Verity Tipper, Kayley Bidder. I think that’s right Thyrza Peters has also been selected for South West regional squad and England pathway. At a coaching level Amanda Bartlett the U18s head coach has been performing the Team Manager role for the County Ladies Squad.

Overall a successful season leaving a difficult coaching dilemma to select player of the season an most improved player awards for the upcoming club presentation evening.

U7’s visit Kingsholm

U7’s visit Kingsholm

U7's

On 27th February Tewkesbury U7’s went to Gloucester Rugby Club for a tour of their club and a bit of coaching from the professionals.
We visited the changing rooms where all the big game plans take place and we saw all the players rugby kits hung up, nice and clean ready for the players.
Just before the game started we did a pitch parade with all the fans cheering and then we made a tunnel for the players to run out on to the pitch.
We then watched Gloucester beat Newcastle Falcons 32-6.
The kids had an amazing time and were totally mesmerised by the whole experience.

The junior section of the club are pleased to have widened its local schools engagement program through enhancing its relationship with Bredon School.

Based in Bushley Bredon School is a mainstream day and boarding school for boys and girls of all abilities from 3 to 18 years olds and has a specialism for helping children with dyslexia, dyspraxia and a range of associated learning needs achieve their potential in a thriving learning environment.

The relationship has developed on two fronts.

From a playing perspective pupils from Bredon School have been training with Girls U18, 15 and 13 squads with successful debuts post Christmas in U18 and U15s along with male pupils commencing training with the U16 squad. Further player engagement at a junior level to increase as well as coaching support from TRFC to the school.

The Junior Section of TRFC and Bredonschool are also exploring opportunities to partner on a wider basis to share resources, facilities and for mutual promotion.

The club would like to extend its thanks to Charmain Eaton who works at the school and plays for Tewkesbury Ladies for nurturing the relationship and David Ward the Head Master.  David has played professionally at Bedford and Nottingham as well as representing England at Colts, Students and U23.  David is an advocate of engaging the school with the community and in particular with TRFC.

We hope to bring further news of developments in future newsletters.

Successful Season for U9s

Successful Season for U9s

U9s-2015-16

The U9s had a strong showing at the recent County Cup competition.  With a large squad three teams were entered that, unlike the majority of other clubs, were unseeded, and all competed strongly.

All three teams showed great skill and determination within their groups which were fiercely fought.  Narrowly missing out on the play offs for finals day the squad enjoyed the day as a whole offering mutual support for each other’s games throughout the day.
The season as a whole has seen the the squad grow and players within it develop new skills and increased teamwork progressing from tag to contact rugby with relative ease.  On match days the emphasise has been to develop skill and enjoy rugby which has resulted mainly in positive results playing opposition teams home and away.
A predominant part of the U9s season has again been the strong parental and family support at training, match days and on social events.  The coaches would like to take this opportunity to express their thanks for this continued support
