Today saw Tewkesbury U12s play their first games after the Christmas break. The morning was definitely a tale of two games.
The first game of the day and their fifth match of the season was against Longlevens. This fixture had provided a great game earlier in the season and we were expecting a similar match. Tewkesbury started very slowly against what seemed a completely different Longlevens side to the one we played earlier in the year. The first half was quite even with strong running and defence from both sides only to see one try scored by Longlevens. The second half was a completely different matter and Tewkesbury were now awake. Despite a number of good runs from W.Wallace, S.Thomas and an amazing break by W.Alonso (who was thwarted short of the line by a high tackle not seen by the referee) the Longlevens strong defence held out. Longlevens scored two more tries in the second half and Tewkesbury one. The final score was Longlevens 15 Tewkesbury 5.
A big well done to Longlevens and we look forward to our next game against them in the next few weeks.
Tries scored by : T.Leggett
The second game and the sixth of the season was against Cheltenham. Tewkesbury were now switched on and provided a completely different display. The first try was scored by M.Dibble with one of his trademark runs through the Cheltenham defence. The next try was, for me, the Try of the season so far when B.Roberts broke blind from the ruck and with quick hands from J.Brinn, J,Carter E.Perry scored in the corner. M.Dibble broke the Cheltenham line again to score his second and S.Thomas scored the final try from a quick tap penalty and strong drive through the Cheltenham defence to touch down on the line.
The Final Score was : Cheltenham 0 v Tewkesbury 20
Tries scored by : E. Perry, M.Dibble (2), S.Thomas
Men of the Matches: M.Dibble (Players) W.Alonso (Coaches).
A big thank you to Cheltenham for the game and for hosting us today. Thank you very much.
We are proud of all the boys at Tewkesbury, well done guys keep up the good work and the rest of the season will be as successful as the beginning – We will take 5 wins out of 6 games.
