Well all I can say is I am proud of all the boys today. They showed more than a glimpse of the form they were in last season this morning against a strong Old Richians side.

Old Richians scored first and converted with a quick response by Tewkesbury who scored and converted. Old Richians scored again unconverted.

At half time the game was really a 50 / 50 affair with great rugby being played by both sides. Half Time Score was 12 – 7 to Richians.

Shortly after half time some strong Tewkesbury attacks resulting in Old Richians giving away a penalty between the opposition 10m and 22 which was slotted between the post bringing the score to 12 -10.

Old Richians scored and converted again, 19 – 10. Tewkesbury then gave away a Penalty which Old Richians kicked , 22 – 10. Another try by Old richians changed things again with the score now 27 – 10. Following this Tewkesbury rallied and after sustained pressure, Old richians gave away three penalties one after the other to try and stop Tewkesbury going over the line leaving the ref with no option but to give Tewkesbury a Penalty try. This was converted. 27 – 17.

Unfortunately Richians scored one more try leaving the final score at 32 – 17.

It was a much much improved effort by the boys and they should take this on board and move forward.

Clifton visit the “moats” in a couple of weeks for the second County Cup game. A few more training sessions will help the boys go into that game with more confidence and self belief.

The game was reffed well and played in good spirit from both teams.
