On a bright and sunny day at the Moats, the conditions made for good running rugby and both teams made a brisk start.

From a ruck attack on the Widden 22, a blind break by Tewkesbury's scrum half, James Hartland who passed to Dan Isles provided the opportunity for the wing to sprint in and touch down for the first try of the game.

Full back, James Watkins followed up his own deep kick which was misfielded by the Widden defence causing an obstruction giving Tewkesbury a penalty in front of the posts converted by Anthony Richards. This gave the home side an 8-0 lead.

Widden increased the pressure on Tewkesbury and were rewarded by a penalty closing the gap to 8-3.

A similar break by Hartland and pass to Isles allowed the wing to score his second try of the ame 13-3. Widden soon struck back with a try going in at half time 13-8.

After the interval with some early pressure in the Widden half, Anthony Richards slotted another Tewkesbury penalty.

Widden kept Tewkesbury in their 22 with strong running by their No 8 and were awarded a line out which was stolen by Tewkesbury. A defensive kick by James Watkins was followed up by James Hartland who caught the ball and sprinted sixty metres down field, cross kicked the ball which was picked up by Dan Isles who off loaded down the line to wing, Will Hartland to score 21-8.

Tewkesbury finished the game with reduced numbers giving Widden the advantage in the closing stages. Tewkesbury's spirited defence could not deny Widden a converted try to give them a bonus point and the final score of the game being 21-15.

Tewkesbury are at home to Cheltenham Saracens in the first round of the Combination Cup on Tuesday 27th March.

Right from the kick off St Mary's had Tewkesbury under pressure with their fast running and passing game scoring two penalties and a converted try without reply.

Tewkesbury hit back twenty five minutes into the game with a try from Centre, Ben Bowers, and a penalty by Anthony Richards closing the gap to 8-13. However, St Mary's dominated play and scored another three tries when Tewkesbury conceded two yellow cards playing with thirteen, and half time were struggling to keep in touch at 8-32.

Tewkesbury's Coach, Dan Smith, must have spoken stern words during the break. Within minutes of the restart Myles Whittle made a strong run down the wing, passing inside to Full Back, Will Hartland to score a try converted by Anthony Richards. Minutes later from a scrummage on the St Mary's five metre line Scrum Half, James Hartland broke free and scored Tewkesbury's third try 20-32.

Tewkesbury's forwards were now winning some good ruck ball and from quick service Myles Whittle made another strong dash, passing to James Hartland to score his second try of the match, converted by Richards 27-32.

With thought of possibly losing the game St Mary's forwards took control driving up field and were rewarded with a penalty.

Tewkesbury were not beaten yet and could have scored another try but were judged to have made a forward pass and were brought back for a scrum where a penalty was awarded. Anthony Richards converted which proved to be the last score of this very entertaining game giving Tewkesbury two losing bonus points.

Defences held strong for both teams with a penalty each in the first twenty minutes. A mistake by Tewkesbury gave Southmead another penalty to take the lead at 6-3.

Tewkesbury then progressed into the Southmead half and from good ruck ball passed down the line to Winger Will Hartland who gave an inside ball to his brother James to score the first try of the game converted by Anthony Richards 6-10. Tewkesbury kept the advantage to go in at half time with a well deserved lead.

After the break and playing up the slope, Tewkesbury continued to keep on pressure, then against the run of play Southmead scored a converted try from a strong scrum on Tewkesbury's five metre line, taking the lead once more 13-10.

A mid-field duel ensued with neither side gaining advantage, until a scrum on the halfway line when Tewkesbury's scrum half James Hartland passed to Myles Whittle who made a strong run up field passing to Will Hartland who stretched full length to ground the ball in the corner for the winning score. 13-15.

Next Saturday Tewkesbury are at home to St Mary's Old Boys who are above them in the table.

Languishing in the bottom three of Gloucester Premier, Old Colstonians showed determination to gain another win by running in two first half tries without reply, leading 10-0 at half time.

After the break Tewkesbury came alive gaining more possession from rucks with Anthony Richards kicking two penalties to bring Tewkesbury back in contention.

Quick ball from a set piece saw Tewkesbury Scrum Half, James Hartland feed Winger, Matt Stone to score in the corner converted by Richards. Behind for the first time in the game Old Colstonians struck back with a penalty to even the score at 13-13.

Late in the game Matt Stone made an interception from an opposition attack running sixty metres shadowed by a Colstonians player to score his second try out wide converted by Richards, leaving no time for the home side to fight back

Tewkesbury 25 v Old Richians 6

After a two week break due to bad weather conditions both sides made a slow start in this local encounter. The half time score was 6-6 with two penalties each.

After the break the game came to light when centre Paul Baker broke through the Old Richians defence on Tewkesbury's 10 metre line, passing the ball to Matt Stone who made an inside pass to James Hartland to score the first try under the posts; converted by Anthony Richards. Minutes later Matt Stone intercepted a pass from an Old Richians attacking move deep in the Tewkesbury half and sprinted up the field to score a converted try. Old Richians seemed to have the steam knocked out of them with a Tewkesbury lead of 20-6.

Tewkesbury's forwards were gaining the momentum with props Rob Howe and Henry Compton outstanding. After continual pressure on the Old Richians line Matt Stone scored his second try of the game in injury time, making the final score 25-6.

Tewkesbury benefited with the return of Club Captain, Simon Bytheway, after a long term lay off due to injury.

Tewkesbury had a slow start and soon found themselves playing catch-up rugby after conceding two quick tries without reply to an in form Old Bristolians.

The home side fought back keeping Bristolians in their half and Anthony Richards kicked two penalties bringing Tewkesbury back in touch with the game at half time 6-12.

Matt Stone

After the break Bristolians continued the pressure on Tewkesbury but spirited defence and good tacking from Henry Compton and Liam Mellor kept them from scoring. Centre Matt Stone took advantage of some loose Bristolians passing with an interception, running 60 metres to score a converted try putting Tewkesbury in the lead for the first time in the match at 13-12.

Bristolians fought back again with good possession and running lines to score a penalty and converted try.

Late in the game Tewkesbury's strong scrummaging gave fly half Richards the opportunity of a drop goal taking the score to 16-22 giving Tewkesbury a well earned bonus point against top of the league opposition.

Longlevens V Tewkesbury

Tewkesbury produced their best performance so far this season in the local encounter at Longlevens.

Right from the kick off Tewkesbury had the home team on the back foot with forwards Jack Taylor and Rob Howe driving up the field to set up Paul Baker for an early try.

Quick ball to Matt Stone from another solid Tewkesbury scrum gave them a further try to lead 0 – 10.

Tewkesbury continued to produce quick ball with a break from fly half Anthony Richards, passing inside to scrum half James Hartland feeding to wing Myles Whittle for a converted try.

Myles Whittle scored his second try of the game from a quick tap penalty taken by James Hartland, converted by Richards.

Longlevens fought back with a long kick forward fumbled by Tewkesbury and a miss pass going to the Longlevens wing to score a converted try taking the half time score to 7-24.

From the restart Tewkesbury kept Longlevens in their own half and with good line out ball on their five metre line and accurate passing across the field gave Myles Whittle the opportunity to score his third try of the game, converted by Richards. Richards soon followed up with a drop goal.

Tewkesbury continued to dominate throughout with another try from Baker. Matt Stone showed powerful attacking on the wing scoring three further tries giving him a tally of four in the game.

The final score was Longlevens 7 -60 Tewkesbury.

Tewkesbury hope to follow up with a strong performance against league leaders Old Bristolians at The Moats next Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm

Will Hartland showed all his skills in a top of the table clash with high flying Dursley leading the league table, The rapid center scored 5 tries and converted 4 to take his tally to 33 points for the game.

Fly half Brad Maber and flanker Dan Iles scored one apiece to finish the scoring off, the Tewkesbury pack dominated the game ensuring the quick firing back line had plenty of possession.

Dursleys big pack worked hard and put Tewkesbury under a lot of pressure, the visitors defended well and stopped the league leaders scoring any points, Jack Birchmore playing at fullback stopped what was a certain try by the home team with a great tackle on their big numbers eight who broke through several tackles.
